Do you wanna build a snowman? Unfortunately, in Florida we cannot promise you this but we can help you create some really beautiful snowflakes! Take some time to sit with your family and create some really beautiful snow art. Appropriate for pre-k through elementary.
What you need:
- Elmer’s Glue
- Salt
- Cool colored paper (dark blue, light blue, purple)
- Cool colored Watercolors
- Pen
Instructions:
- Choose cool colored paper
- Draw a snowflake pattern on the paper
- Trace the snowflake paper by squeezing glue along the lines
- Sprinkle salt on to the glue
- Wet the water colors so that they are quite damp, you will want drops of the color to drop and spread on to the salt. This will create a beautiful spreading effect that will have the color running through the salt like Elsa touching the pond and turning it to ice! So fun!
Differentiations:
Younger children: Grown ups draw the snowflake and kids trace the line with painting the glue on the lines with a paint brush! (Great for pincer grip practice)
Older kids: Older kids should get creative drawing really interesting snowflake shapes. They can also cut out intricate paper snowflakes and then decorate them with this salt painting technique to make their snow flakes extra icy.
