Our Story

About the Sarasota Children’s Museum

The journey of the Sarasota Children’s Museum began with a heartfelt vision. A group of dedicated women, including inspiring working moms led by Christina “CC” Fredericks, came together with a dream. They noticed something missing in Sarasota: a place where families and kids could learn and play together, especially after GWIZ, our beloved science center, closed its doors in 2012. This left a big gap in our community, one that seemed to grow as more and more young families made Sarasota their home.

Then, in August 2023, something wonderful happened. These passionate individuals joined forces, forming our board of trustees and, by November 2023, we proudly achieved our 501(c)(3) status. Now, we’re on an exciting path toward making our “Museum Without Walls” a reality in 2024. We’re all about finding the perfect spot to call home and kicking off a campaign to bring this dream project to life, for our kids and our community.
