What inspired you to get involved with the Children’s Museum?
“Fortunately, we have had the opportunity to take our girls to a few children’s museums, both in the US and abroad. Seeing the pure joy, curiosity, creativity and freedom to explore these venues offered our girls had us hooked on the experience. We have often said how we wished to have access to a children’s museum in our community. I believe so much in the children’s museum experience that I am committed to helping make this a reality.”
Can you share a favorite childhood memory that sparked your passion for Sarasota to have a children’s museum and you being a part of bringing that to reality?
“There are many favorite childhood memories I have from growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. We had so much freedom to explore and to do so alone or with neighborhood friends. Life today is different and this freedom as I know it is not as easy to achieve. A children’s museum provides a space where kids can freely explore and experience the power of play without any restrictions which I believe is so essential for healthy child development.”
What’s an interactive exhibit or educational program you would love to see at the museum, and why?
“So many exhibit ideas and educational programs excite me! I look forward to there being a safe climbing structure where kids can soar to new heights and also a space where they can learn science in a fun way. The more interactive exhibit or educational program, the better.”
If you could have any superpower to help you in your role, what would it be and why?
“This is such a hard question to answer, I want more than one superpower. Since I have to choose, I wish I could read people’s minds and what they were thinking. This would help so much with fundraising more effectively.”
What are your hobbies or special talents that might surprise people?
“Travel is one of my favorite things to do as I love exploring new places, cultures and food. Being on the water and enjoying the beauty of Sarasota’s outdoors is how I like to spend my spare time. Many people do not know I am fluent in German and one of my professional strengths is project management and implementation.”
If you could host a dinner party with any three characters from children’s books or movies, who would they be and why?
“Pippi Longstocking, The Cat in the Hat and Willy Wonka. It’s a party after all.”
